Summer of Love Resurrected By the SLCC Music Track
Thursday, 13 August 2009 06:49
As many of the musicians of SL arrived in San Francisco on the eve of the 2009 SLCC, the true spirit of Peace, Love and Music arrived with them. The night began with a gathering at the Borders Books & Music, where Jay and Sue Mahar (Apple MacKay and Nasus Dumart) signed their book, The Unofficial Guide to Building Your Business in the Second Life Virtual World'. Then, the crowd migrated to 'open mic' at Cafe Royal, where several SL musicians, including Cylindrian Rutabaga, Beth Odets, Lyndon Heart, Patrick LaSalle, Pato Milo, Paisley Beebe, EvaMoon Ember and others jammed. By 11pm, open mic had ended, but the spirit moved the crowd to Union Square park for an impromptu acoustic jam. Passers by enjoyed the music, some joined in the applause. Without doubt, San Francisco is knows we're here. It's as if the Summer of Love is now resurrected. Perhaps the difference between the original Summer of Love and the SLCC's version of it is that 40 years ago, it was about counter-culture. Today, it IS culture. The park managers kindly gave us notice to clear the public space nearing midnight, so the crowd moved the party to the chandelier decorated hotel lobby, where we played and sang until 2:15am, without one complaint from guests or hotel managers. See the video clip from when we played in the park.
