[18:07]  Nasus Dumart: Simone is credited with high profile work with The Electric Sheep Company. She is also noted for several fashion shows early in her career in Second Life®.

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: I interviewed Simone for our book, 'The Unofficial Guide to Building Your Business in the Second Life® Virtual World'.

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: She applied real world store planning to her shops, which is something that may surprise some of you.

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: Consumers and marketers participate in an an unspoken powerplay -

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: The consumers want quality products, easy navigation around stores and good prices.

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: Marketers want to provide that as long as the consumers buy their goods.

[18:08]  Nasus Dumart: Tonight, Simone will tell us about her experiences in Second Life and building a successful business based on real world marketing practices.

[18:10]  Simone Stern: Welcome all, thanks for turrning out.... I am a bit slow on the keys especially this late in the day... after many hours every day of typing my hands get a little stiff. ;D So, please understand my lack of speed hehe :D

[18:10]  Simone Stern: Well... where to start?

[18:11]  Simone Stern: I heard about SL from Stephen, my hubby. He'd read an article online in the WSJ.

[18:11]  Simone Stern: He said "Honey, people are making money in this virtual world..."

[18:11]  Simone Stern: I said, "Oh, REALLY...."

[18:11]  Nasus Dumart: ;)

[18:11]  Simone Stern: He said, "They are selling things.

[18:11]  Simone Stern: I said "Oh, REALLY...."

[18:12]  Simone Stern: He said, "They are selling clothes."

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: Sales ARE attention getting...

[18:12]  Simone Stern: I said, "Did you make an account yet?"

[18:12]  Simone Stern: ;D

[18:13]  Simone Stern: So as he downloaded the client, I was dreaming upo a marketing strategy.... I had been 'online' for a lot of years. I knew that it was not the domain for geeks, teens and dirty old men. I knew from experience that there were a *lot* of women online. A lot of women over 30.

[18:14]  Simone Stern: So, knowing what I do about demographics breakdowns, I knew who my target would be.

[18:14]  Simone Stern: When I got into SL, I immediately started casing the stores. I was simply overjoyed to find NO ONE targeting women over 30.

[18:14]  Simone Stern: So, I went to work!

[18:15]  Simone Stern: I dont consider myself a forward thinker. I just seemed to know that wherever people went, they'd bring their wallets, or in this case, Coach bags. ;D

[18:16]  Simone Stern: So that's how I got started.

[18:16]  Simone Stern: the past four years have been 'more of the same'. More hours, more work, more deliberate thought into the business strategy, lookihng for ways to expand.

[18:19]  Simone Stern: In my humble opinion, there's really only one woman who knows how to organize a fashion show and how to make it 'pay' for a designer. And that's Brace Coral. She was a magician at making the models understand that the point was delivering the artist's vision, and how to make that a pleasant, even silly, funny, enjoyable experience for the audience.

[18:20]  Simone Stern: I was lucky enough that she did several of my first shows, and as a result, I was able to develop a following early in my efforts.
