[18:03]  Nasus Dumart: Welcome to the Guest Lecture Series at Molaskey's Pub.

[18:03]  Nasus Dumart: This evening, we are taking a side step from the business track to see how the cyber-culture we're building takes form, with respect to art and humanity.

[18:03]  Nasus Dumart: Filthy Fluno, owner of artist community 'Artropolis' in Second Life®, is this week's guest in the 'Lecture Series'.

[18:04]  Nasus Dumart: Since we met at the SLCC in September, Jeff as we've come to know him, has become one of our treasured friends.

[18:04]  Filthy Fluno: yay

[18:04]  Nasus Dumart: He won us over with his character and talent. His live action drawings tell a story of gatherings, interaction, quirky-ness, love and music.

[18:04]  Nasus Dumart: The multi-dimensional storytelling is captured in layers. It is fascinating to watch the piece come to life, as we have. This is art evolution, like life itself, real or virtual.

[18:05]  Nasus Dumart: This very visual and hip lecture will begin shortly. Use this time to invite others to join you. Let me just remind the audience of the structure of this event.

[18:05]  Nasus Dumart: This will be a type-chat event.

[18:05]  Nasus Dumart: I will ask that the audience to refrain from room chat until your host and Lecturer have completed their presentations.

[18:05]  Nasus Dumart: At that time, the audience will be encouraged to participate in a lively period of Questions and Answers.

[18:05]  Nasus Dumart: Tonight’s lecture will go according to a schedule.

[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: As moderator, I will give prompts as to when we will proceed. This transcript, including audience participation, will be made available on http://Molaskeys-Pub.com immediately following the lecture.

[18:06]  Filthy Fluno: whoa cool

[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: Observe tonight’s anticipated schedule:
[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: 6pSLT-6:10 - Getting situated
[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: 6:10-6:15 - Filthy Fluno Intro by Nasus Dumart
[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: 6:15-6:30 - Filthy addresses the crowd
[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: 6:30-6:45 - Q&A
[18:06]  Nasus Dumart: 6:45 - 7pSLT - wrap up Q&A / mix-n-mingle

[18:09]  Nasus Dumart: Attending the 2008 Second Life® Community Convention in Tampa was an opportunity which Apple (=RL husband, Jay) and I could not pass up.

[18:10]  Nasus Dumart: Though it was a challenge to pull it off, the trip proved to be an important one.

[18:10]  Nasus Dumart: While we were there, we met hundreds of Second Life residents in person, making friendships more meaningful.

[18:10]  Nasus Dumart: During that long weekend, special events took place.

[18:10]  Nasus Dumart: On Friday and Saturday night, a group of musicians, artists and pub owners coordinated the most memorable parties, ever.

[18:10]  Nasus Dumart: That Saturday night, Jeffrey Lipsky captured it in a drawing, while Jay Mahar captured the drawing-in-the-making on video.

[18:11]  Filthy Fluno: no shit?

[18:11]  Filthy Fluno: nice!!

[18:11]  Nasus Dumart: For some, finding Second Life has been an alter-life escape, others see it as a great interactive medium or a networking site.

[18:11]  Nasus Dumart: Well - it is all of those, because it is what you make it.

[18:11]  Nasus Dumart: For Jeffrey Lipsky, Second Life is art.

[18:11]  Nasus Dumart: The people, the avatars, the environment, the situations. He captures a scene or an emotion through his abstract interprative drawings, layer by layer.

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: As you see in the pictures surrounding the stage, Jeffrey has a way of catching your eye, but look closely.

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: There are hidden meanings in them.

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: When we were in Tampa, after the crowds filtered down, I was looking at the piece he did that evening.

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: Jeff pointed out details that I had missed earlier. That's the thing about each piece he does, there are details to point out, stories to be told.

[18:12]  Nasus Dumart: In Second Life, Filthy runs Artropolis, an artist community.

[18:13]  Nasus Dumart: He finds inspiration at every turn. In the real world, Jeffrey has his work hanging in galleries, offices and homes to the satisfaction of every lucky owner.

[18:13]  Nasus Dumart: Filthy is featured in our book, 'The Unofficial Guide to Building Your Business in the Second Life Virtual World' by Sue Martin Mahar and Jay Mahar (AMACOM 2009).

[18:13]  Nasus Dumart: Please welcome resident artist Jeffrey Lipsky, here as as Filthy Fluno.

[18:13]  Nasus Dumart: ♪♫♥ Cheers!! ♥♫♪
[18:13]  Mia Kitchensink: woo hoo
[18:13]  Nasus Dumart: applauds

[18:14]  Rinaldo Debevec applauds

[18:14]  Cosmica Mornington cheers
[18:14]  Maya Paris: hiya filthy

[18:14]  Filthy Fluno: wow what a great intro nasus

[18:14]  Filthy Fluno: thank you

[18:14]  Nasus Dumart: :)

Filthy Fluno & Nasus Dumart

[18:14]  Filthy Fluno: and thanks to apple, mia, and the rest of the gang that keep things like Molaskey's a relevant place for artists to come show and chat about what they do

[18:14]  Filthy Fluno: cheers to them

[18:15]  Nasus Dumart: :) thanks, Filthy

[18:15]  Apple MacKay nods

[18:15]  Filthy Fluno: as many of you are already doing

[18:15]  Filthy Fluno: you can click on these pictures i have around the stage

[18:15]  Filthy Fluno: they are a slideshow of the creative process that went into making them

[18:15]  Filthy Fluno: what makes SL so amazing for me is the people and events

[18:16]  Filthy Fluno: as well as what these people are passionate about

[18:16]  Filthy Fluno: please tell me if this is a good speed

[18:16]  Nasus Dumart: yes - you're doing fine

[18:16]  Filthy Fluno: ok dokes

[18:17]  Filthy Fluno: so the pieces I've arranged out here tell stories... sometimes quite representationally

[18:17]  Filthy Fluno: but all of the time the textures, imagery, symbols, and graffiti come straight out of SL and right onto the paper

[18:17]  Filthy Fluno: is everyone having a chance to click through some of the pics?

[18:18]  Mia Kitchensink: yes

[18:18]  DrFran Babcock is clicking happily

[18:18]  Nasus Dumart: I will try now

[18:18]  Filthy Fluno: ok cool

[18:18]  Filthy Fluno: some rezz slower than others

[18:18]  Ham Rambler: yes, should have brought my OWN Filthy Flumo Painting........

[18:18]  Nasus Dumart: these are presented very well, FF

[18:19]  Filthy Fluno: its exciting to see so many people in the audience who have seen and own my artwork

[18:19]  Filthy Fluno: i did a piece about a friend who past away last year

[18:19]  Filthy Fluno: champion valliant

[18:19]  Filthy Fluno: many of you know him

[18:20]  Filthy Fluno: i was at the inworld memorial service for him

[18:20]  Ham Rambler: very sad

[18:20]  Filthy Fluno: and it become very important for me to capture this event in my abstract narrative style

[18:21]  Filthy Fluno: the outpouring of support and friends that came to that service was simply awesome

[18:21]  Filthy Fluno: so in the artwork that I made... as you go along the process... you can see diff avatar names... imagery of the candles, coffin, architecture

[18:21]  Filthy Fluno: and as I do all that

[18:22]  Filthy Fluno: i also keep in mind to make it a good drawing that embraces the tactile qualities of the pastels

[18:22]  Filthy Fluno: much like the abstract expressionaists

[18:22]  Filthy Fluno: but not exactly

[18:23]  Filthy Fluno: i feel like if i'm capturing a moment and at the same time, in the zone, I'm going to have an artwork that the SL people who were at the event really can appreciate

[18:23]  Filthy Fluno: and that is important to me

[18:23]  Filthy Fluno: to tell stories

[18:23]  Filthy Fluno: from a pciture of my pastels laying ontop of my table

[18:23]  Filthy Fluno: to the textures on the side of a brick building

[18:24]  Filthy Fluno: so the picture I made about champion really came from a sad place at first

[18:24]  Filthy Fluno: friend is gone

[18:24]  Filthy Fluno: but to see everyone in SL celebrating this guy was inspirational and drew tears to my eyes

[18:25]  Filthy Fluno: my artwork is commemorative

[18:25]  Nasus Dumart: :)

[18:25]  Filthy Fluno: on other pieces

[18:25]  Filthy Fluno: its still comemmorative, but more celebatory

[18:25]  Filthy Fluno: celebratory

[18:25]  Filthy Fluno: i interview avatars, get under their skin a bit, learn what they're passionate about

[18:26]  Filthy Fluno: then create a piece that brings the viewer down narrative path

[18:26]  Filthy Fluno: sometimes gently.. sometimes knocked over the head

[18:26]  Filthy Fluno: depends on the mood

[18:26]  Nasus Dumart nods

[18:27]  Filthy Fluno: what also interests me is that people want the RL artworks to compliment the SL one

[18:27]  Filthy Fluno: counterpART

[18:27]  Filthy Fluno: i could on and on about that.. but let's just say I opened a RL art gallery based on this very principal

[18:27]  Filthy Fluno: http://www.counterpartgallery.com

[18:28]  Filthy Fluno: Mia's piece was made about her kitchen/bathroom store here in SL

[18:28]  Keystone Bouchard is Online

[18:28]  Nasus Dumart loves that one

[18:28]  Mia Kitchensink: me too

[18:28]  Filthy Fluno: i was actually in my studio with SL on a huge video projector
while a new york times magazine reporter was watching the whole thing

[18:29]  Filthy Fluno: so... it many ways, I'm looking at an interactive 3D still life

[18:29]  Filthy Fluno: however, personalities, live events, great animations....

[18:29]  Filthy Fluno: its much more than just a still life
