Princeton University-SL Concert a Success

I had the pleasure of recently interviewing Persis Trilling of Princeton University-SL for my upcoming book, 'The Second Life Business Builder'. We toured most of the nine Princeton University islands in 'Second Life' during an hour or so conversation. When Persis showed me the phenomenal concert hall at Alexander Beach, designed and built by Scope Cleaver, I asked how  many concerts they sponsor, assuming they used the hall for grand events. When Persis said they hadn't really used it for more than a few shows, since it opened in November 2007, I offered to name a few choice musicians that would gladly fill the hall and perform whenever she wanted.

On the occasion of a student thesis, Persis took me up on the offer last week and asked me to contact one of the musicians. She needed to get a sampling of 30-50 people together to come for the concert and stay to participate in a simple study conducted by  a student. I offered to promote it through the Molaskey's Group and several other feeds.

Alexander Beach

TallGuy Kidd, www.dalemarsh.com , one of our regular professional musicians from Molaskey's Pub, agreed with honor to do the show.  Apple MacKay spent  an afternoon a few days prior, taking publicity photos for this special event at the Alexander Beach concert hall. He added text and the SLurl to the poster and then loaded it onto our new meezmo board at the Pub, where people could teleport directly from Molaskey's Pub to Princeton's Alexander Beach.

An hour before the show, LL asset servers threw a stick into the spokes with a shut down. It was a bit dramatic, I will admit, but we were able to all log on in time and stay on schedule.

As everyone gathered, TallGuy took the stage and Persis welcomed an assembly of approximately 35 people. From 6p-7:20pSLT, we listened to the clean, velvety voice of Dale Marsh and his original south western ballads from his CD, 'No Turning Back'. Some of my favorites from his collection, destine for commercial success, include 'Johnny Appleseed's Lament', 'The Yahoo Song', 'Analog Man',  'Crayola Blue' and 'Clock Keeps Ticking'.

Although Molaskey's Pub features him regularly, some of the attendees had never heard of TallGuy Kidd / Dale Marsh. From the feel of the show last night, I bet it won't be their last.

At the end of the show, Persis invited everyone to participate in the study, which was very simple, as promised. We all teleported to a location outside the concert hall.  The instructions were scripted into a board, which whisked individuals up to a skybox and prompted them through the three minute survey. The student conducting the study observed as dozens of participants teleported to and fro.

I will not discuss specifically what the study was about, but, it was an interesting sampling of social quandary. Participants were pleased and surprised to be paid L$300 when they completed the study. Some wanted to know if they could call in their friends. The study concluded having sufficient information.

The student was happy, Persis was happy, TallGuy was happy, Apple was happy, I was happy, the audience was happy. I just love when things work out for everyone.
